June 27, 2019: Hello All! I am your state Legislative representative. I am also a member of the ACNM National Government Affairs Committee (NGAC).
We had a fabulous time at the ACNM Annual Meeting in Washington DC, May 2019! For those of you who were unable to attend, the Annual Meeting is set in Washington DC every four years, so hopefully, you will be able to attend the next time!
We had 14 members present for the “Hill Day” from Arizona. We visited the offices of Senators McSally and Sinema and several of our state Representatives (Districts 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8). NGAC was well-prepared with written materials for us to share with our legislators. We did not get to visit with the legislators personally (they were too busy or unavailable, even though I made our appointments months in advance!). This was disappointing, however, the experience at the national Capitol was fantastic!
All of the legislators will be home in Arizona in August, and that is the best time to meet with them! I am waiting to hear from the schedulers at the offices of Senators Sinema and McSally. When I have confirmed appointments, will let you know so that you may join if able. I have the written information from NGAC to share with the legislators. Arizona is divided into 9 congressional districts, each represented by a member of the United States House of Representatives. This is at the Federal level. There are state level legislators, including senators and representative in Arizona. We should know them, and they should know us.
I recommend that each of you make an appointment (I can help you) with your local congressman during the month of August. You can find out who your Congressional Representative is by looking at your Voter ID card. It will list your Congressional District (federal), and Legislative District (state). You can also find out by visiting AZ.gov.
You can find out more by connecting with the Arizona Nurses Association (AzNA), who employ our lobbyists, and provide our strongest advanced practice nursing advocacy! www.aznurse.org I encourage all of you to become members of the AzNA! We have a Centennial Celebration (annual convention) on Sept 19 & 20, 2019, Wild Horse Pass Convention Center, Chandler, Arizona. I hope to see y’all there!
Peace. Love.
